Solved: IT 270 Web Hosting Tutorial: Setting Up Free Web Hosting Space

There are three primary web hosting solutions from which can chose for this course. Reference the information below to make your choice. Please note, you should ensure that you check your “junk” email to ensure that you are receiving your confirmation account set up from the hosting space

Choice 1 Altervista
Choice 2 Geocities
Choice 3 000 Webhost
Choice 1: Altervista

Step 1. Visit http://en.altervista.org and click the Start Now button.

Step 2. On the next screen, click the “Are you looking for a plain hosting?” link at bottom.

Step 3. On the next screen, in the first “Choose Your New Address on the Web” field, set your address to be your first name initial + your last name + your SNHU ID number (e.g., mlambert1084959). Be sure to scroll down and
provide your full first name, full last name, gender, birth year, and email address. Click the checkbox agreements, and then click the orange Go On button.

Step 4. Altervista will send you an email to activate your account. After clicking the link to activate your account, select the File Management option for managing your website.

Step 5. Use the directions provided by Altervista at this part in the activation process to set up “File Management” as your preferred type of web hosting.

Choice 2: Geocities

  1. Navigate to the Geocities site and follow the instructions for setting up a free account
  2. Once you set up your free account follow the directions provided within the geocities dialogue to replace the index.html file from the root folder and upload your own website files.
  3. You may also accomplish this after the set up by using the web based File Manager provided at http://members.geocities.ws/. This is where you can remove the existing index.html file and uploading a new index.html file of your choosing.

  4. Navigate to the 000webhost site and select the free sign up option.
  5. 000webhost will send you an email to activate your account. Once you do that, set up your account and follow the directions 000webhost will provide to use “File Management” as your preferred type of web
    hosting.
