[Solved] HIM 600-1-1 Discussion: Coding Compliance

Scholarly articles agree that auditing and monitoring are essential elements of healthcare compliance since they aim to evaluate the adequacy and productiveness of internal care controls (DeVault & Stanfill, 2019; Ruppert & CISA, 2004). Specifically, monitoring ensures that healthcare policies and procedures are in place and are being followed. At the same time, auditing helps determine whether the healthcare monitoring program is operating as it should and that the policies, procedures, and controls adopted are adequate. Their effectiveness is validated in reducing errors and risks (Aleixo, 2021). Therefore, auditing and monitoring help address healthcare compliance issues by identifying policy and procedure areas that require improvement within an organization while simultaneously ensuring the existing systems are free from errors.
