Proposals
The details of the selected grant are
grant number “F32 HS27286-02†and the title “improving rural cancer care
deliveryâ€. The primary investigator s name is Izumi Okado. The grant is a National
Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual
Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32) sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research
and Quality (AHRQ) and funded by the State of Hawaii. The grant award is
$68,562, and the project began on 7/9/2020 and is expected to end on 7/8/2022.
The goals of the project include comparing
how rural and urban cancer patients perceive care coordination and examining
the relationship between the perception of care coordination of rural cancer
patients and the specific care delivery outcomes, i.e., the time from the initial
symptoms to diagnosis and time from diagnosis to the initiation of treatment.
The project aims to improve the delivery of rural cancer care; therefore, the
first goal is measurable and realistic as it will allow the primary
investigator to determine the differences in the perceptions of rural and urban
cancer patients about care coordination and determine areas that need to be
improved to enhance care rural cancer care coordination. Besides, the second
goal is also measurable and realistic as it will allow the primary investigator
to determine how rural cancer patients care coordination perception relates to
specific care delivery outcomes and how the coordination of cancer care impacts
care delivery outcomes. These goals are realistic as they will guide care
coordination processes that disproportionately affect rural cancer patients and
how to enhance the delivery of rural cancer care.
