[Solved] HIM 510- 5-1 Discussion: The New EHR
With
huge advances in IT, particularly in healthcare, over the last few decades, the
collection, storage, processing, and retrieval of healthcare
information has evolved from basic electronic health record (EHR) systems to
the more advanced new EHR systems to improve care quality, increase
patient safety and confidentiality, improve operational efficiency, and lower
healthcare costs (Tsai et al., 2020). Unfortunately, the digital boom has
disrupted the healthcare industry in a variety of ways.
As a result,
educating physicians and clinical staff on the new EHR is critical to improving
compliance, particularly with the HIPAA Security Rules and the CMS Medicaid EHR
Incentive Program (Szalados, 2021). Compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule and
the CMS Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, in relation to Mercy Vale Medical
Center, addresses the technical and non-technical safeguards that an
organization requires to secure PHI. Simultaneously, they enable an
organization to enjoy continuous quality improvements at the point of care and
the exchange of healthcare information in the most structured format possible.
