*HRPO 2307 ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR

NOTE: All work from these assignments should be double spaced.

Listed below is your homework assignment from all 16 of the chapters in our textbook. Per your Course Syllabus, you are required to complete
assignments from only 5 of the chapters. And, YOU select which chapters
you want to complete the homework from. For each homework assignment,
you CAN earn up to 40 HUGE points, depending on the quantity your work.
HOWEVER, please remember that you will be tested on all 16 of the
chapters in the textbook during this semester.

In order to receive all 40 points you must: (1) submit your homework in the
specific format that is requested below; (2) submit your work within the requested time perimeter, and (3) submit work that reflects a high level of quality, as well as accurate, thorough content. The exact number of points that you receive for each assignment will be based on the above factors, the suggestions below, and your specific responses---compared to the responses of other students in the class. Points for all homework assignments will be posted weekly in the eCampus system. Below is specific information regarding each of your chapter assignments:

  1. I recommend that you save all homework assignments that you submit
    until the course is over.
  2. In order to submit your assignments, click on the “Submit Assignments”
tab (located on the left menu of the Announcements page) and then click
on the “Textbook Chapter Assignments” folder. You will see further
    instructions there.

Your assignments must be submitted as a “Word” document. Do not use
other programs to send your work in since the eCampus system does not readily convert them and I will not be able to open and read them. ALSO, Do not send your homework to me zipped. I cannot open zipped homework in this system.
Please send each document unzipped.

  1. If you have technical questions and need assistance, contact the “Tech
    Support” Reps. at (972) 669-6402 between the hours of 8 a.m. – 11 p.m.
    (Mon-Wed); 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. (Thur-Fri); and 3 p.m. – 11 p.m. (Sat-Sun). All
    times are Central Standard Time.
  2. For each of your assignments, type the following Header information
(horizontally, not vertically) at the top of the first page (one inch from the
top). Type all information on the same line:
Your Name---Homework ___of 5---Chapter number and name
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not type symbols, punctuations or other marks in
the Header information when posting your assignment…use only letters
and numbers. (see the example below.)
Mary Jane Jones—Homework 4 of 5—Ch 7---The Nature Of Teams
After typing the above heading, skip one line (by hitting your return key only one time) and begin typing your homework.
  3. NOTE: Your assignment should be double spaced and typed with a
size 12 font, with one inch top, bottom, and side margins. Submit your
document in the “Print Layout” format (which is located under “View” at
the top of your Microsoft WORD tool bar). Also, your assignment should
have one inch top, bottom, and side margins----just like this document that you are currently reading.
Specific Instructions For Each Chapter’s Assignment:
NOTE: As indicated above, all homework from these chapter assignments
    should be double spaced.

For each chapter assignment type a 4 full-pages double-spaced report that summarizes what you learned from reading that particular chapter---identifying what you believe to be the most important information in thechapter. NOTE: Your summarized report for each chapter can be longer than 4 full double-spaced pages; however, if it is shorter than 4 full pages, in fairness to all students, points will be deducted.

Your report should include information from the following three sections or
parts. Please DO type the (red and yellow) information below at the
beginning of each part, type your responses to each Part of your
assignment. For example: Part 1: Chapter Summary—(then begin typing
your comments for this part on the same line), etc. (Also, please type each
Part number and name in BOLD print, instead of regular print.)

Part 1: Chapter Summary---Begin typing your comments on the same line.
Summarize what you learned from reading this chapter. More specifically, what are some of the key themes, concepts, and principles that you learned when reading this chapter? (This Part should be approximately 2 or 2 ½ pages in length. Summarize your thoughts about what you learned by reading the chapter. Do not type information verbatim—directly as it is printed in the textbook---type what you learned in your own words.)

Part 2: Management Application---Begin typing your comments on the
same line that you type “Part 2”: In this section, discuss how can managers
apply information in this chapter to more effectively perform their jobs, lead with excellence, manage their employees, make decisions, motivate their teams, etc.?
(Your answer to this question should be approximately ½ page in length.)

Part 3: Chapter Learning Features---Each chapter contains six additional
informational features that are designed to enhance your learning. Select
three features from the list below to submit work from. Read the specific
assignment requested for each feature that follows the list below. Those features include:
(1) Bring OB To Life —*Summary and **Application (See explanations
below.)
(2) Worth Considering---Or Best Avoided? --- Summary and the “Do The
Analysis” section---discuss your responses to 3 or 4 of the questions listed
there.
(3) Finding The Leader In You --- Summary and Application
(4) Checking Ethics In OB --- Summary and the section below the
information in the feature—discuss your responses to 3 or 4 of the
questions listed there.

(5) OB in Popular Culture---Summary and complete the “Get To Know
Yourself Better” Section---including the recommended assessment test.)
(Note: All assessments are located in the back of the textbook in the Ob
workbook section. The edge of the pages for the Assessments section is
the color purple.)
(6) Research Insight --- Summary and Application (No need to answer the
“Do the Research” questions, unless you desire to do so).
Specific Assignment: Again, select three (3) of the above features per
chapter. (The features can vary, depending on which chapter you are working on and what your preference is.) Read each feature thoroughly.

For each feature submit a report that contains at least two paragraphs from
the information below. Please read the information below very carefully.
(1) *Summary: In one paragraph, discuss what you learned from reading that particular feature. Your paragraph should contain at least 5 to 7 comprehensive sentences.

(2) **Application: In the second paragraph, discuss how you can apply the
information that you learned when reading this segment in order to more
effectively manage employees, relate to team members and others, and/or
create a more positive, productive, and successful organizational work
environment. Your paragraph should contain at least 5 to 7 comprehensive
sentences.
(3) Other Feature Assignments: All of the above features require a one
paragraph Summary. However, not all require a one paragraph Application
discussion. Some features require other tasks to be completed, as indicated on the list above. Those other tasks should be written as your second paragraph.
Important Note: Please type the specific name and page number of each
feature ---on the line first, before you begin to type your first (summary)
paragraph.

(Part 3 of your chapter assignment should contain six paragraphs---two per
feature).

AGAIN: For each of these textbook assignments, your entire assignment
should be DOUBLE SPACED and when you complete the assignment it
should be at least 4 full pages. Your assignment can be longer than this,
but if it is less than 4 pages in length, you will lose valuable points. And,
obviously, if you do not follow the above instructions, you will lose
valuable points. Each paragraph should contains between 5 – 7 detailed
sentences.

Below are other key points to keep in mind while typing your assignment:

 DO NOT use the statement “I learned” when typing your chapter
summary…simply read each section of the chapter and summarize,
in your own words, what you learned from reading that portion of
the chapter.
 Since this report is already double spaced, DO NOT skip an extra
line between paragraphs.
 For the purpose of this assignment, make sure that each paragraph
is only between 5 - 7 detailed sentences---no longer.
 Again, if you desire, your report can be longer than 4 full pages.
However if it is shorter, points will be deducted.
 This assignment is free-flow writing, which will give you an
opportunity to read the chapter, analyze the information, and then
identify what you believe to be the most important factors of the
chapter.
 Write your report in narrative form, i.e., complete sentences and
paragraphs. Do not write incomplete statements, bullet point items,
outlines, etc.
 Please PARAPHRASE ALL your summaries. In other words, DO
NOT WRITE THE EXACT information just as it is stated in the
textbook. Read the material in the book and then reword your
comments by putting them in your own words what you learned.
This technique helps to develop your critical thinking skills
and writing skills. Valuable points will be deducted from your
assignment if you forget to paraphrase your work.
 Please number each page of your report.
 Again, your assignment should have one (1) inch top, sides, and
bottom margins. A “full page” report will have information that you
have typed on every available line of each page.
 Again, please use a size 12 Ariel or Times New Roman font.
 Do not submit an assignment for a chapter that we are not yet
scheduled to cover, according to our Course Schedule. For
example, if we are scheduled to cover chapter 10 during week 8, that
is when the assignment is due. That is also the week that you can
submit it in the eCampus system. Do not submit it before week 8.
However, feel free to work ahead of schedule on your assignments
and save them, if you would like to; but, again, do not submit them
for grading until we are in the week that each particular chapter
assignment is due.
 While we all make occasional typographical or grammatical errors
when typing (including me), as Business and Management students,
it is essential that you learn and practice excellent proofreading skills. As such, please proofread your work carefully after you have typed each assignment and then correct your errors. This habit will serve you well as your career evolves and you are put in positions where you are required to create written hardcopy and/or electronic documents that are disseminated to others in the workplace. While I will overlook an occasional error in your assignments, if you have several errors in one assignment, valuable points will be deducted from your work.

Following these guidelines will help you to receive the maximum number
of points allotted for each assignment. Points will be deducted from your
work if you decide not to follow these guidelines.
** After I read your assignments I will assign a point value to your work and post your points in the eCampus Grading Center. You will always be able to see how many points you have in the system by checking the "My grades" link under student tools. Since you will be posting your assignments through the Submit Assignments tab, I will provide you feedback on some of your homework, but not every assignment that you post. The number of points that you receive for each assignment will be based on the guidelines that have been listed above.

Generally, the deadline for you to submit each chapter's homework for each
week will be at 11:59 p.m. midnight, on Sunday nights. Therefore, I usually
will read those assignments and post the specific number of points the following week.

Again, you can earn up to 40 points for each chapter's assignment. However, the specific number of points you receive will depend on how well you follow my instructions for each assignment and the quality and quantity of your report compared to those of other students in the class.

Please remember that the same standards of grading apply to this online
course as they do in any regular college classroom setting. As such, the
students who submit the highest quality of work will receive the maximum
points. Students who submit good but less quality work will receive a
good number of points, but not the maximum points. And students who
submit the poorest quality of work will receive the lowest points.

Let me reminder you that if your schedule is extremely busy and you miss
submitting one chapter's assignment, RELAX--IT'S OK. Remember that you only need to submit work from 6 of the 16 chapters in order to receive points for your homework assignments. If you focus for the next several weeks and work diligently, you will, like many other students, successfully complete this class. If you have questions or if I can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me at: Lmorable@dcccd.edu

General Grading Guidelines:
Although I will provide you feedback on some of your chapter assignments, I also want to give you some idea of the value I place on the points you receive for each assignment. As such, since each textbook assignment is worth up to 30 points, here are some general grading guidelines to remember when you see your points for each assignment posted in the Grade Center:

(a) 33-40 points = excellent work
(b) 28-32 points = very good work
(c) 23-27 points = good work
(d) 18-23 points = fair work
(e) below 18 points = poor work

Many times a student does a very good-to-excellent job with an assignment, but the student does not earn the highest points. Sometimes that is because the student submitted late work, incomplete work or did not provide as much detail as other students did. Also, some points will be deducted if the student does not follow the precise format that I have requested or, as mentioned above, if the student has several typographical and/or grammatical errors in the assignment.

If a student consistently submits fair or poor work, I will contact the student to see how I may assist him or her in improving their performance on the assignments.

However, most students excel in this course and do quite well if they simply stay focused, manage their time efficiently, and follow their instructions.
Remember, I am here to assist you in any way I can in achieving your
educational goals. If you need help of further clarification, please contact
me. And, I look forward to reading your assignments.
Warm Regards,
Professor Morable
