1.     From a generalized soil map of California, locate your hometown or farm. On the California relief map, draw a line through your home in an E.-W. direction from the Pacific to the Sierras. Identify the types of soils found on the line. Use the space below to list the soil types, code letters, and a brief description of each soil type/code.

2.     Describe how the soils of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley originated. Include the five-soil forming factors in your description.

3.     Use the internet to find a map of California s major earthquake fault lines. Print it off the web, or make a drawing, and insert it into your laboratory manual.
