Purpose: This assessment is designed to assess your level of
knowledge of the key topics covered in the unit HC1021.
Unit Learning Outcomes Assessed:

Each question identifies which key learning outcome(s) are addressed.
Description: Each week students were provided with tutorial questions of varying degrees of difficulty. These tutorial questions are available in the Tutorial Folder for each week on Blackboard. The Interactive Tutorials are designed to assist students with the process, skills and knowledge to answer the provided tutorial questions.
Your task is to answer a selection of tutorial questions covered over Week 2 to Week 11 inclusive.
It is important when you answer the questions, you do not just copy and paste the answers from other sources, but rather, try to paraphrase it and provide reference (in- text referencing) to your answers. All references must be listed appropriately at the end of the report using Harvard referencing style.
Answer ALL the following 6 Questions.

Question 1: (200-250 Words)
a) How has technology impacted business communication and briefly explain how its effects can be minimized. Provide two examples to support your answer. (3 marks)
b) Describe the elements of the Transactional Process Model of Communication, including the various parts and how interference or barriers impede communication. Construct or use a real-life example to support your solution. (4 marks)

Question 2: (200-250 Words)
a) How would you express yourself with non-verbal communication modes, which can either improve or impact the spoken word. Identify 2 non-verbal cues, and discuss why they may be perceived differently by Western and Non-Western cultural receivers. (4marks)
b) Do you have good or bad listening habits? Give an example for each good and bad listening habit that you may have, and how this has impacted you when communicating with other people. (3 marks)

Question 3: (200-250 Words)
a) You have been assigned the responsibility of managing your company’s social media communications. Identify and discuss what four problems could develop if your staff is not trained in using social media correctly, or issues from your customers, using your social media site, to provide feedback etc. Use examples to support your answer (4 marks).
b) Differentiate between weblogs and wikis as communication media. Furthermore, using examples, identify two advantages and one limitation for each of your explanations. (3 marks)

Question 4: (200-250 Words)
Selecting an appropriate communication channel and media for your business is important to the overall effectiveness of the delivery of a message. Give your opinion about this statement and provide examples to support your answer. (7 marks)

Question 5: (350-450 Words)
Delivering bad news is hard especially when you do not agree with the decision you are communicating. Explain in detail the appropriate channel and outline a message that conveys bad news. Under what conditions, could a writer be justified in choosing an alternate outline or channel? Use an example to illustrate your solution in choosing the appropriate channel. (11
marks)

Question 6: (350-450 Words)
a) Describe any five (5) graphic types and include the appropriate objective for the use of each. Give an example for each type and why the user would select that graphic type to communicate their message. (5 marks)
b) You are given the task to present a Zoom Online Sales Presentation, to an audience of marketing representatives from your company’s different geographical locations. They have different cultural backgrounds. Discuss any three important Do’s and Don’ts that you need to consider to ensure the success of your presentation. Use an example that supports each positive
or negative point. (6 marks)

Submission Directions:
The assignment has to be submitted via Blackboard. Each student will be permitted one submission to Blackboard only. Each student needs to ensure that the document submitted is the correct one.
