Literacy Narrative

Literacy Narrative: Draft

Directions: You MUST submit a draft of this essay for your final essay to be graded. Complete the following items to compose an effective draft.

Step 1: Understand the instructional materials.

  • Review the Literacy Essay Assignment document which is found at the beginning of the unit. Make sure you understand the requirements for this essay.
  • Review your notes from the 1.1a Lecture on How to Write a Literacy Narrative Essay.
  • Review the feedback I provided on the 1.2 Prewriting and Organizing assignments.
  • Review the 1.3 Sample Literacy Narratives and Grading Rubric.

Step 2:  Compose this version as if it is the final draft.

  • Start with the ideas from your Literacy Narrative Organizing document and use those elements and ideas from the chart to compose your draft. As you write, some of those ideas may change.
  • Put the draft aside for a couple hours or a day. Then, review it with fresh eyes. Make sure the content is complete based on the rubric.
  • Review for grammar and mechanical errors.
  • Make sure your document reflects MLA guidelines and my instructions for saving/labeling your document.
  • Label your saved document with your last name and underscore.
  • Save your Word document as a .doc or .docx so I can make comments electronically.
  • If you are using a MAC computer, don't save as .pages because I can't open it and late rules will apply if you have to resubmit your work.
  •  If you don't remember how to complete these tasks, review the video in the Introduction - c: MLA Heading and Saving-Labeling.
  • Submit your completed draft on or before the due date to avoid late assignment penalty.
