Example of a Body Paragraph (1)

Specifically, when Castro announced that anyone who wanted to leave Cuba through the Port of Mariel could, no one in the United States suspected that the dictator would empty his jails from pardoned criminals. The criminals that made it to South Florida thought that they were finally free from the sentencings of their crimes, and of course from Castro’s communist island; however, these criminals were apprehended and incarcerated.  In 1980 Fidel Castro opened the port of Mariel to Cubans who wanted to emigrate from the island (Neal). According to Benedict L. Stabile and Dr. Robert L. Scheina, both United States Coast Guard Officers, towards the last days of April 1980, “The first signs that those seeking to leave Cuba might have the opportunity for a water-borne escape to the United States…”  This is when most Cubans that had been trying to flee from Cuba for ages, attempted to seek political asylum in the United States. The Mariel ports were open to all sorts of people, “When it was discovered that a number of the exiles had been released from Cuban jails and mental health facilities, many were placed in refugee camps while others were held in federal prisons to undergo deportation hearings” (“Castro Announces Mariel Boatlift” ). So many prisoners, who thought they were free from being locked up, weren’t free after all. The unexpected occurred when the refugees arrived to the United States. To relate to this, Andrew Glass,a columnistfor Politico, reports in one of his articles that there were approximately 1,700 exiles in prison, and just fewer than 600 were detained until they could find families to claim them or any sponsors. The time Fidel Castro changed the Cuban-American immigration policy and started the event for anyone to leave the shores of Mariel, was when Cuba emptied out their prison cells and mental facilities in 1980. Even though they weren’t all free because at the end they still were detained on American grounds, they still got liberated from the tyranny of Cuba.

Example of a Body Paragraph (2)

Empirical financial evidence supports a shift toward using energy from renewable sources to run manufacturing plants. It is good business savvy for executives to think more sustainably, but other underlying incentives need to evolve in order to bring about tangible change. David Blood and Al Gore of Generation Investment Management, an investment firm focused on “sustainable investing for the long term” (“About”), wrote a grounding breaking white paper that outlined the perverse incentives company managers face. For public companies, the default practice is to issue earnings- every quarter. This practice encourages executives to manage for the short term instead of adding long term value to their company and the earth (Gore and Blood). Only the most uncompromisingly green CEOs, would advocate for stricter carbon emissions standards at the company’s factories if a few mediocre quarters left investors demanding that they be fired. Gore and Blood make a powerful case against subjecting companies to this “What have you done for me lately?” philosophy, arguing that quarterly earnings guidance should be abolished in favor of companies releasing information when they consider it appropriate. A new model should incentivizes thinking for the long run. Multiyear milestones for performance evaluation, as Gore and Blood suggest, are essential to pushing executives to manage sustainability.
