The purpose of the research proposal is for you to explain to me what you foresee as the primary purpose of your research project. The idea is that you will take the topic and subject of the documentary further through additional research.

This could mean fact-checking a particular aspect of the documentary or expanding on a particular point that the documentary makes, or even just using the documentary as a jumping-off point for a related research inquiry. But the ultimate aim of the final project is to conduct research and use that material to make an argument in a paper.

Your research proposal should cover four basic topics:   

A. WHAT YOUR DOCUMENTARY IS ABOUT

B. WHAT ITS “TAKE” ON THE TOPIC SEEMS TO BE

C. WHAT INTERESTS YOU ABOUT THE TOPIC

D. HOW YOU PLAN TO RESEARCH THE TOPIC FURTHER
