Research Proposal

This formal narrative has several sections – you must use the headings in bold. You are permitted to use additional headings if they help organize your paper. You will submit a HARD COPY of the final proposal to class 4/14.
Title
The title should be no more than 12-15 words, and should describe your project.
Introduction
Include a brief (1-2 paragraphs) introduction to the topic that should be written to a general audience.
Background and Significance
Taken from your literature review, present relevant summaries of studies. Compare and contrast what you found in the literature, and describe “holes” in the literature and researchers’ recommendations for future study. This should conclude with your purpose statement (The purpose of this study is to…).
Research Question
This should be one sentence.
Methodology
This section must include a detailed description of:
- Study design
- Sample population (including inclusion and exclusion criteria)
- Operational definition of variables and measurement tools (physiological, survey, etc.)
- Validity and reliability information for existing instruments
- Detailed description of treatment/intervention (if applicable)
- Detailed description of data collection procedures
Project Timeline
Include a Gantt chart and description of activities that will take place (and when).
Budget
The budget must include a numerical list of personnel, equipment, supplies and space/rental costs AND a budget justification detailing the rationale for the costs.
