Were the people of Germany in the 1930s willing participants in Nazism or were the people of Germany manipulated into support for Nazism?

This course culminating activity is a historical research essay and the assignment will require research, the development of a thesis argument, and the utilization of written communication skills. You are given the topic: were the people of Germany in the 1930s willing participants in Nazism or were the people of Germany manipulated into support for Nazism? This built-in question is very important because it is the focus of your research and writing.

In your research attempt to find material which supports the argument that the German people were willing participants and also attempt to find material which supports the argument that the German people were manipulated. In your essay, you should weigh both sides of the argument before reaching a conclusion. Always back up your arguments with specific examples. The research essay will require a minimum of fifteen footnotes drawn from at least five different sources. You may, of course, use more than the minimum number of footnotes.

Your paper will contain approximately 1600 words. It will be typed in a double space format. In typed form (with 12 font), your paper will be about 6-8 pages in length. You may use either the footnote form (notes at base of page) or the endnote form (notes on a separate page at conclusion of the paper)

History is a recounting of the past by human beings, and sometimes there are different opinions about what occurred in the past and why it occurred. You are required to compare authors’ opinion regarding an historical event, personality, or cause. The authors’ opinions may coincide, they may differ a great deal or they may differ only slightly.

Make specific reference to each author’s opinion by means of a partial quotation. Mention the authors and their books or articles by name in the body of the written paper and correctly document the opinions presented.
